A woman who had pulled over and exited her car was fatally struck by another car on I-75 in the early morning hours Sunday, Atlanta police say.

Officers responded to the wreck on I-75 northbound near Cleveland Avenue at about 3:30 a.m. The 23-year-old woman, driving an Acura MDX, pulled over on the left side because her vehicle “became disabled for unknown reasons,” police said in a news release.

When she got out of the car, she was struck by a driver in a Volkswagen Tiguan, who hit both her and the vehicle, police said.

The woman did not survive, police said. Her name was Jaquelin Telesforo Vazquez, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office.

The other driver “fled the scene on foot after the collision,” investigators said.
