Georgia Tech football’s season will begin like last year’s did: against Colorado. But this time, the teams will meet at Bobby Dodd Stadium, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. Thursday.

These aren’t the same teams that met out West a year ago.

For Tech, the Alberto Mendoza era is set to begin. The Indiana transfer takes over at starting quarterback, joined by Michigan transfer running back Justice Haynes, the former Peach State high school star who returns home for his senior season.

The Yellow Jackets also have new coordinators with familiar ties to the program. George Godsey, a former Tech quarterback, takes over the offense, while Jason Semore returns to run the defense after previously serving on the Yellow Jackets’ staff.

Overseeing it all is Brent Key, entering his fourth full season in charge at his alma mater.

“Big-time games and big-time football is here in Atlanta at Georgia Tech,” Key said. “That’s what is awesome. That is what is cool. Knowing that the nation’s eyes are going to be on us, that’s something that we embrace. That’s something we’ve wanted since we started this.”
