Central of Carrollton finally scored enough to beat Houston County by a 73-66 final in overtime.
Lee County and Colquitt County both had their scoring sprees, but the Trojans emerged with a 48-30 win in Moultrie. Lee County continues to stack wins over well-known national brands, as it beat Miami Carol City (Florida) and Sequoyah the last two weeks.
The Houston County-Central game just got wilder.
Houston County appeared to be closing out what is likely the highest-scoring game of the season so far. Senior running back Austin Stinson was about to take a 72-66 lead for the Bears with less than 30 seconds when the ball was stripped out from his possession from behind.
Central's Kannon Jones fell on the ball in the end zone, preserving the 66-66 tie on a touchback.
Dalton improved to 4-0 with a 42-35 win over Calhoun. The Catamounts had a 41-21 lead in the fourth quarter, and the Yellow Jackets cut it to seven points with roughly three minutes left.
Dalton forced a turnover on downs to protect the lead. The Catamounts have the week off before hosting Cedartown on Sept. 25.
Calhoun lost its third straight game, an uncharacteristic skid for the 2024 state champions.
On the night that Nick Chubb's number was retired, Cedartown's late rushing touchdown earned a 34-28 win over Adairsville. The Bulldogs moved to 3-1 and will host Altoona next week.
