Carver of Columbus appeared in control through every snap of its 24-7 Class 2A state championship win over Hapeville Charter.
Not so on Friday.
The Hornets appeared to be more comfortable against the Tigers' defense this time in a 31-25 win.
Hapeville Charter handed Carver its second loss of the season, as it also lost at Douglass of Atlanta in Week 1.
Marietta held off McEachern's late comeback push for a 21-19 upset of Class 7A's No. 4 team.
The Blue Devil defense stood strong on a potential game-tying two-point conversion and forced a turnover on downs on McEachern's final possession to seal the win. It was Marietta's first win over the Indians since 2022.
Early in the third quarter, it looked like Peach County might deploy a few freshmen before the game was over. The Trojans led Jefferson 30-13 at the time.

Shaw now coaches at Dawson County, which hosted Rabun County on Friday. The Wildcats beat the Tigers, 35-21.
Buford, Carrollton and Gainesville all battled out-of-state opponents Friday night. The Wolves and Trojans rolled to dominant wins while Gainesville fell by three points.
Buford improved to 3-0 all-time against Mallard Creek (North Carolina) with a 41-7 victory. Carrollton hammered Catholic (Louisiana) by a 61-27 count, and Gainesville fell at East St. Louis (Illinois), 24-21.
One more nationally relevant Georgia team will play across the border this weekend. Creekside will play St. Joseph Regional (New Jersey) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Troup County simply handled business against a fellow top-10 team Friday, thumping Calhoun 42-0. It was the first time the Yellow Jackets have been shut out since their 2019 playoff elimination loss to Peach County.
Troup County also shut out Hampton in Week 1, a 40-0 win. The Tigers beat LaGrange last week, 22-20.
Brookwood's dynamic duo of SEC commits, quarterback Gary Chatman Jr. (Auburn) and running back Brayden Tyson (South Carolina), shredded another defense tonight.

Sequoyah led 32-21 for the entire second half until the final couple minutes.
Carrollton’s sophomore backfield of quarterback CJ Cypher and running back Zach Watts is one of the highest-ranked in Georgia, and they’re reminding the country why again.
