Falcons training camp begins officially Wednesday, with the first practices at Flowery Branch.

Rookies and veterans already arrived at camp, a clear sign that it’s happening — football is back.

The new front office and coaching staff are looking to change the culture and get the Falcons back to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.

Among the many storylines to watch, the quarterback position will be one of the focal points of training camp, as Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa vie for the starting job.

Check out the latest updates from the AJC staff, including beat writer Daniel Flick and photos by Miguel Martinez.

Opening-day happenings

On the first day of camp, there's generally going to be plenty to absorb, but this seems a little odd. The Falcons will have six inactive players, parted ways with QB Trevor Siemian and brought in QB Cooper Rush — in a rush — after Tua Tagovailoa had a back issue that kept him out of the first practice

It's probably not anything to be overly concerned about, but it could be a little troubling if this continues for the majority of camp.

Rush job

Cooper Rush said he was in Dallas yesterday when he got the call that the Falcons were interested in having him come in.

That’s a crazy 24-hour stretch for him — to go from doing his own workouts to finding a team.

He said he doesn't know a lot of players on the Falcons roster, but he's making the rounds to get to know his new teammates.

What a start

It's not quite the way you draw it up on the first day of training camp.

Michael Penix Jr. : Out.

Tua Tagovailoa: Out.

Trevor Siemian: Released.

It looks like the Falcons will add quarterback Cooper Rush to plug some of the missing pieces.

Summer springs eternal

And they're back.

The Falcons rookies and veterans began reporting to Flowery Branch for Wednesday morning's start of training camp.

It's the first glimpse of the new-look Falcons, who have plenty of new faces, but welcome back three of their main pieces on offense: running back Bijan Robinson, receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts.

There are some interesting storylines to watch and some position battles that will decide the starters.
