Friday and Saturday look to be another scorcher, with temperatures high enough to prompt the National Weather Service to issue a heat advisory from noon Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday. The advisory area covers much of Middle and North Georgia, including metro Atlanta.
Expect highs to reach the mid-90s on both days, but the feels-like temperature, which factors in humidity, will push the heat index value up to 109 in some places, the Weather Service predicts. Add sunny skies with a chance for afternoon showers, and the full steaminess of the forecast emerges.
The Weather Service warns the temperatures plus high humidity “may cause heat illnesses.” Try to limit vigorous outside activity and wear light and loose clothing, the agency advises.
The sweltering forecast follows a blazing hot Thursday that triggered a heat advisory across parts of east and Middle Georgia, including Athens, Macon and Columbus. The air temperature at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport hit 95 degrees Thursday afternoon, according to Weather Service data.
“Make sure to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” the agency said.
Clayton County Public Schools on Thursday canceled outdoor activities, including physical education classes and recesses.
This weekend and into early next week, expect high temperatures to remain in the mid- to upper 90s, the Weather Service said. Sunday and Tuesday could see highs around 97, while Monday could reach 99.
