The Georgia Tech football team successfully completed its trek to Orlando, Florida, on Monday, arriving at the Rosen Shingle Creek hotel before 4 p.m.

Tech, No. 22 in the College Football Playoff rankings, begins the week as 4.5-point underdogs to Pop-Tarts Bowl opponent No. 12 Brigham Young.

“When you come to bowl games, you have that three-week layoff, you go through finals, all the things — it’s who’s gonna be focused?” Tech coach Brent Key said Monday. “I want our guys to come down and have fun, enjoy themselves, enjoy being together, but at the same time understand what the mission is and what we’re trying to accomplish, and that’s winning a football game on Saturday.”

After check-in and meetings Monday, Key and Tech players are scheduled to take part in the bowl game’s day for kids Tuesday morning at Fun Spot America. The Yellow Jackets will then practice at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Boone High School. Tech is also scheduled to practice at BHS at 11 a.m. Wednesday and 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

After an off day Friday, Tech will take the field at 3:30 p.m. Saturday against Brigham Young (11-2) in the Pop-Tarts Bowl at Camping World Stadium.

“I would like to think the game we’re gonna play Saturday is gonna be better than a lot of the (playoff) games I witnessed (Friday and Saturday),” Key told 680 The Fan on Monday. “I think it’s a really good matchup. It’s a chance for two teams that are built very similar to have a chance to compete, for seniors to play their last game before moving on, some to the NFL, some to other stages of their life.”

The Jackets had Friday and Saturday off before returning to campus Sunday to begin a typical game week, using Sunday for workouts and meetings. Saturday’s matchup with BYU will be a chance for the squad to win its 10th game of the season, something Tech has not done since 2015.

Key said that while his team is there to ultimately compete, he also explained there is a balance between allowing players to have a unique experience and enjoying themselves as a team for one final game.

Symbolic of the trust Key has in his players to have a responsible amount of fun, he said he allowed the team’s seniors to decide on a curfew for the first two days of the trip.

“I want them to have fun. I want them to enjoy this experience. And what’s the point of going to a bowl game if you’re not gonna be able to enjoy it and get something out of it from a bonding standpoint and a relationship standpoint?” Key added. “This is the last time the 2025 Georgia Tech football team is gonna be together. I want them to enjoy the heck out of this.”

Tech sells out bowl tickets

Tech announced Monday it sold out its full allotment of tickets for Saturday’s game.

In addition to selling out its first allotment of tickets, Tech secured additional tickets beyond its original allocation in order to fulfill all ticket requests made through the Tech athletics ticket office, according to a release.
