Two people were hurt in a crash involving two tractor-trailers on I-285 North in DeKalb County early Tuesday, officials said.

The collision was reported around 7 a.m., according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. Northbound lanes of the Perimeter have been blocked for nearly two hours.

The scene is located near the overpass for Rainbow Drive along the edge of the Panthersville area and just south of Exit 46 to I-20. One of the trucks was jackknifed in at least two lanes with debris scattered across the road, GDOT cameras show.

One person’s injuries are serious, DeKalb police said in a statement. The other’s were described as minor.

Officials did not immediately say if other vehicles were involved.

“Because this is a prime travel time for people driving to work, as well as any early holiday travel, we encourage drivers to find an alternate route if they plan to be on I-285 near this area,” police spokesperson Blaine Clark said.

As of 8:30 a.m., traffic was being diverted off the interstate at Flat Shoals Parkway, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Heavy delays remain, though, and commuters should seek ways around the slowdown.

One option is taking Moreland Avenue north to I-20 to bypass the blockage, the Traffic Center suggests.
