Come back for updates from the game.
After all the problems of the night, the Falcons pulled out a victory on Zane Gonzalez's 48-yard field goal as time expired Thursday in Tampa. The Falcons overcame a 28-14 deficit in the fourth quarter and won 29-28.
The Falcons committed 19 penalties for 125 yards, plus committed one turnover, but won the game.
After Kyle Pitts' third touchdown catch of the night pulled the Falcons to within two points of tying the Bucs, another two-point conversation pass attempt failed, this time under heavy pressure by the Bucs' defense. That left the Falcons trailing by 2.
The score remains 28-26 with two minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
Pitts has 10 catches for 152 yards.
Bijan Robinson ran 6 yards around left end for a touchdown that left the Falcons trailing by eight points with 9:37 to play in the fourth quarter. A pass by Kirk Cousins on a two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the Falcons looking up at the Bucs 28-20.
The Bucs retook the lead with a touchdown pass caught by Devin Culp with 6:22 to go in the third quarter. The play gave Tampa Bay a 20-14 lead.
The Falcons were called for four penalties on the drive, with one of them declined. The Falcons have been called for 14 penalties for 90 yards. The team has 14 first downs and scored 14 points.
Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts entered the game with one touchdown pass caught this season. By halftime Thursday, he had two more.
Pitts caught his second TD pass, a 17-yarder with 38 seconds left in the second quarter, to give the Falcons a 14-10 lead.
Pitts has caught six passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
He's had big games against the Bucs in the past.
Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell is not having a good day.
He’s been called for three penalties. Two erased sacks, and one was declined by the Bucs when they converted on a third-and-15.
Terrell's first penalty was a defensive holding on a third down and erased a sack by linebacker Kaden Elliss that would have forced a punt.
A few plays later, Terrell was called for illegal contact on a third-and 15. Emeka Egbuka caught a pass for 23 yards, and the Bucs declined the penalty.
The Bucs went on to finish an 11-play, 83-yard touchdown drive on a 1-yard run by Sean Tucker.
On the Bucs' next drive, Terrell was called for a defensive holding that erased a sack by David Onyemata, who was visibly upset. The defense went on to force a punt.
The offense had committed five penalties with just over seven minutes to play in the second quarter.
The Falcons, playing a sloppy game, had nine penalties for 55 yards. The score was tied 7-7 with 6:29 to play in the second quarter.
Kyle Pitts caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Kirk Cousins, and the Falcons answered the Bucs' TD with their own.
On the play before, Falcons kicker Zane Gonzalez made a 31-yard field goal on a fourth-and-4 play, but the Bucs were called for being offside, giving the Falcons a first down. On the next play, Cousins and Pitts connected for the touchdown, which was only the second of the season for Pitts.
The drive took nine plays and covered 65 yards.
Tampa Bay scored first Thursday night on a 1-yard run by Sean Tucker with 1:38 to play in the first quarter.
The play was set up by a 19-yard pass from Baker Mayfield to Jalen McMillan to the 1-yard line. The original call on McMillan’s catch was that it was a 20-yard touchdown play. After a video review, the officials ruled that McMillan was down at the 1.
After an incomplete pass on first down, Tucker scored, and with the extra point, the Bucs led 7-0.
Here are some notable accomplishments to watch for tonight:
-Falcons safety Jessie Bates needs one interception to become the fourth NFL defensive back since 2000 with at least three interceptions in seven of his first eight career seasons, joining DeAngelo Hall, Terence Newman and Pro Football Hall of Famer Ed Reed.
-Falcons rookie outside linebacker James Pearce Jr. recorded his sixth sack of the season in Week 14. Pearce has a sack in five consecutive games, tied for the fourth-longest streak by a rookie since 1982, when the individual sack became an official statistic. Only Jevon Kearse (eight games in 1999 with Tennessee), Micah Parsons (six in 2021 with Dallas) and Mike Croel (six in 1991 with Denver) had a longer streak among rookies.
-Falcons running back Bijan Robinson needs four games with at least 100 scrimmage yards to become the third player ever with 30 or more 100-yard games in his first three seasons, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers Eric Dickerson (34) and Edgerrin James (32). Robinson has 26 career games with at least 100 scrimmage yards.
